Encompass Must Pay Whistleblower $1 Million in Attorneys’ Fees

A Texas whistleblower whose False Claims Act lawsuit helped the Justice Department recover $48 million in a settlement with Encompass Health Corp. is entitled to slightly more than $1 million in attorneys’ fees, a Florida federal court said.

That amount is a slight reduction from the fees requested by Melissa Higgins, who accused the rehabilitation facility operator of fraudulently billing Medicare, Magistrate Judge Anthony E. Porcelli said Tuesday.
